Prostate Cancer Simulation
Computer simulation of prostate cancer initiation and progression. In this example after a brief period of time the three prostatic glands show cancer initiation from the luminal epithelial cells. After a long period in which the tumours remain in situ (PIN), one of them manages to break up after degrading the basal membrane and despite all the efforts of the stromal cells. Code: red cells=cancer, green and blue = epithelial, black and brown = stroma. From Basanta et al. Cancer Res. 2009. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov
